Small Landscape Day 79

Claudia McGill says: Think about this – how it feels when you are on a long car trip, going through a stretch of monotonous scenery, let’s say, and all of a sudden you come around a bend and see a whole vista laid out in front of you – hidden until this very moment. Waiting for you! That’s the thing that keeps me looking out of the window of the car rather than sleeping or reading a book, I think.

Oh yes. I know that feeling from driving through the desert in Nevada. It was so repetitiously featureless that my eyes were restlessly searching for something to focus my attention on. I was definitely elated when the scenery began to change.

I found this happening when we used to drive to Pittsburgh and there was a stretch that was nothing but green trees doing nothing but standing there on hills. I found myself thrilled when we got into the mountains and there were tunnels and rocks to look at, even though I don’t like the swoopy roads. Same feeling as you, I think.
