Clay Tiles 6″ x 6″ – Food, Everyday Life, and Memories

These tiles were inspired by photos I took last Thanksgiving at the Hotel Bethlehem in Bethlehem, PA, where we had lunch.

And some more…from here and there.

Another great collection. My favourites are the chef and the drummer. I love what the patterns, shapes, and colours in those particular tiles suggest about the characters inhabiting them.

I love making patterns and carpet and flooring is just crying out for ornamentation, in my opinion. I do like a nice busy rug on the floor!

I try to give them the environment I think they need, not always what they were in when I saw them, and I do like how working with clay and underglaze like this forces me to pay more attention to patterns and combinations in order to make sense of the limited space I have to work with.

Goodness. You are painting and coloring on tiles!! Wowzer! I hadn’t noticed before. Super.

Kind of a newish thing. I needed a change from the relief tiles. Felt I was starting to repeat myself. It’s an easy process since I buy the tiles commercially made, don’t make them myself, but – I have just started making some to use in this same manner – a little more irregular looking in shape. We’ll see how that goes!
