Musicians Caught My Eye

I did this little painting (it’s 10″ x 8″) from a photo I took at the Hotel Bethlehem in Bethlehem, PA, last Thanksgiving. These two men were providing music for the Thanksgiving buffet lunch. I thought the combination of accordion and guitar was wonderful to the eye and to the ear.

It’s done in acrylics on board.

I love the shapes of the musicians and the rendering of their instruments. I also really like the way the cool tones of the musicians are foregrounded by that peachy background, bathing them in a warm spotlight.

Thank you. I was really taken by these musicians, my ears and my eyes! At first I had more detail in the picture but I got rid of it and I liked it much better. And when in doubt, use your favorite colors, right? So these musicians got placed in a more ideal world, maybe?

Thank you. I loved the musical combination of these instruments and the selections the two guys played, and also watching them. Really was easy to be inspired by them.

Thank you, these guys really contributed to a relaxed but festive atmosphere at the restaurant where my husband and I had Thanksgiving lunch last year and made a real impression on me.

Thank you. I feel satisfied with this piece. It had more detail at first and was unfocused – paring it down made me so much happier. I like painting musicians, they are so expressive in their body postures.

you’re very welcome Claudia! And isn’t that the wonderful thing about painting, we can create… add, delete, change At Will, whatever suits our fancy ?!!

Oh, everything about it! I’m drawn to the black/white against apple green and mint. I saw Sting at Stabler in Bethlehem in the late ’80’s. Bethlehem, music, art…what a lovely memory. I’m very inspired by this little painting! I expect you might find your influence in my future work…..

Thank you! I like how this one turned out although it took me some time to get to a good conclusion – I kept wanting to add details when what it needed was – less!
