Interior

Here is a painting from February, 2016. It’s 12″ x 12″ on 3/8″ board, prepared with a textured gessoed surface.

I like furniture. Nothing more to be said!

I love how strong the lines and shapes are in this piece and that pop of red is great. I like the way your paintings hover the line between representational and abstract.

Thank you. You know, I have tried totally abstract work in some contexts, like printing, and I like it and the process. But painting and collage, I like to have a toehold in reality, it seems to make it more easy to then refine the image into its basics. I enjoy that process. Once again, the plein air experience – soon as I get the outlines of the scene down, I found that I didn’t look at the reality anymore – I based my work on what was going on in the picture. When I referred back to reality, things got stalled and anxious. There is certainly a line I tread in how I do things and what the results are and I think you have hit it – it’s a hovering type of thing.
