Postcards – With Arms

I made these two postcards in March, 2016. For some reason I am focusing on their arms, when I look at them now, that is.

They are 6″ x 4.25″, done on scrap cardboard, using paint, paper, whatever…

The first one looks like it wants to embrace and hug everyone and the second one looks despondent. Both suggest something about responses to current affairs.

But you know, I made these months ago. I think that everyday life continues to call up the same emotions, again and again, in response to different things, that maybe aren’t so different, if they call up the same emotions, if this makes sense. We survived the past, we’ll survive the present?

Completely agree. These things almost seem to be cyclical – though of course they rumble along the whole time on a smaller scale before escalating and becoming a tinder box again. I think those dual responses to things are universal human reactions also. Learning from the past in order to make progress in the present would be very beneficial. Sadly, too many people in power choose to ignore the lessons of the past.
