Drawing With a Pen #8

Both of these are drawn from photos taken in Conshohocken, PA, in July. My husband and I took a walk on the trail here as part of the Montco Trail Challenge – and this town is special to me as the site of my first job after college. Take look here to see photos and a full description of our day here, if you’d like.

Thank you. I think each building has a spirit and it just naturally comes through in a drawing, even more than a photo, because I spend time with the structure, giving it time to let me know who it is. I love buildings in general and I’d spend any amount of time looking over almost any of them; no matter how bland they might seem, they all have quirks and individuality.

It’s like drawing people for me. I’m not that interested or I’m receiving the rays of inspiration or whatever, and my work (or lack thereof) in portraits and so on shows it.

The more I look the more I am amazed how much there is to put in one small picture. I really find this aspect of drawing fascinating. Like it’s somehow infinite.

That may be one of the reasons why I have never really taken to drawing landscapes or cityscapes – I like things to be contained and controlled. You may have noticed that about me. 😀

I think I run from one box to another. Along the way I get sidetracked. Next thing you know I’ve agreed to check out the inside of a new box. I think that sums up my life. Oh dear.
