Pattern and People

Here is an acrylic painting from November, 2016, 8″ x 10″. I do like a black/white checker pattern and I come back to it again and again. As for the people, I had cut out figures from magazines to serve as models; I chose two at random and painted them in to this scene.

The painting is called “Taken Aback”.

Thank you. I placed the people in the painting without thinking too much about it, went through a phase of -how will I make this work out? why did I do this! and then it ended up ok, and I think better than I could have planned it.

Thank you. I have been filling space with pattern recently and I then wonder if it detracts. I have to keep it in control. I think here it works, the figures can assert themselves enough.
