Are they really saying anything?

    Usually not.
I was just reading about someone who took a vow of silence and maintained it for years. He evidently learned a lot, both about listening and communication. (K)

I’ve always liked being alone and craved a lot of time with no one around, but…I talk to myself a lot (or the cat). and there are sure some long strung out conversations in the silence at my house. !

I love the way the figure in the first one is hemmed in by words but her tiny mouth suggests she has nothing to say in response to any of the words that assail her. In the second one, I see those people as almost swimming in a sea of language. I feel like one might be swimming but one might be sinking.

I think you have hit on my feelings exactly about these. In the first one, I made a background, put in the drawing , than added words. In the second, drew, and then words. And in both it did seem that too much talking was swamping them. I feel that way myself quite often. Maybe these are self-portraits.

Thank you! I’ve always been wordy once I get started talking. Like a faucet that goes from nothing to turned on full blast. I’m trying to let my art and writing do more of my talking these days…
