More Sidewalk Art: Three

A few months ago I wrote a post about some artwork I did inspired by a book:  Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists: 52 Creative Exercises to Make Drawing Fun, by Carla Sonheim. (Look here for that post.) I’ve done some recent work inspired by the same subject – the cracks in the sidewalks under my feet. Now I’m doing a small series of posts to show you the results. Search this blog under the term “sidewalk art” to find earlier posts.

My method is to take one photo and rotate it through a circle – that way I can do four drawings from one photo. Here is the source photo for the second set of drawings done on 8/26/19:

and here are the drawings.

This might be my favourite sidewalk collection yet. I am imagining the figures are trapped between the cracks – or maybe deliberately hiding down there in the crevices.

Thank you. This kind of drawing is so relaxing. You have a reference, but, it’s vague, so you can take it where you want. The best of both worlds – the idea is there, but it has infinite possible applications. Plus, this kind of drawing is easy to do anywhere you can have your notebook and a photo, or maybe just take a sidewalk “plein air” if you are near one!
